Who Amber is, and how she works
Amber is an artificial-intelligence assistant built for Still Here Youths (SHY) and guided by our youth-work values. She sits alongside — never in place of — our human team, teachers, families and qualified professionals. Her job is simple: give a young person a safe, encouraging first conversation, then point them towards real people and real services.
Amber follows safe-messaging practice. She won't give clinical, legal or crisis instructions, won't discuss self-harm methods, and escalates straight to emergency and helpline pathways plus the SHY team when risk appears.
Conversations are tied to the young person's own account and aren't browsed by staff. Amber doesn't ask for addresses, school details or other identifying information.
She supports learning, planning, motivation and referral. She does not diagnose, treat, prescribe or make decisions on a young person's behalf.
Amber references Australian services, study and career pathways, and is transparent that SHY is an independent not-for-profit — not a government agency.

Is Amber a real person?
No. Amber is an AI assistant created for Still Here Youths. She's clearly labelled as AI everywhere she appears, and she'll tell a young person the same thing if they ask.
Is she free?
Yes — completely free, forever. Young people just need a free Still Here account.
Can she replace a counsellor or doctor?
No. Amber doesn't diagnose, prescribe, or give clinical or legal advice. She encourages young people to speak with qualified professionals and shows them how to reach them.
What happens if someone is at risk?
Amber stops coaching and moves straight to safety: emergency numbers, Kids Helpline, Lifeline and 13YARN, plus a pathway to contact the Still Here Youths team.
Who can see the conversations?
Conversations are private to the young person's own account. Our team doesn't browse them. Safety and privacy details are in our Privacy Policy and Child Safe commitment.
Can parents and schools use her?
Amber is built for young people. Adults are welcome to read this page, try our parent and school resources, and contact us with questions.
